Carbonyl Iron Safety

There have been no published reports of serious or fatal poisoning from carbonyl iron overdose. Carbonyl iron has a greater safety margin than ferrous sulphate formulations because it is more slowly absorbed and must be converted to ferrous iron by gastric acid before it can be absorbed.

Not only does carbonyl iron contain the highest purity iron, but it is also less toxic to children who might take an accidental overdose. Carbonyl iron is significantly less toxic than other options due to the fact that it must first be solubilized by gastric acid.

The synthesis and characterization of the iron carbonyl complex are described. The complex is stable in aqueous solution for greater than 24 hours but releases carbon monoxide (CO) rapidly upon irradiation with 365 nm light.

Vitamin C and Iron Absorption

Vitamin C enhances iron absorption due to its ability to reduce ferric to ferrous iron due to its antioxidant property, prevent conversion to ferric iron, and its potential to chelate iron for enhancing absorption.

Vitamin C and Ferritin Levels

A previous study demonstrated that ascorbic acid increased the concentration of the iron storage protein, ferritin.

Combining Iron and Vitamin C

Overall findings of this study confirmed that iron supplementation alone and combined with vitamin C causes a reduction of serum zinc levels after 6 weeks; however, by repairing the iron stores, its absorption improves. In addition, iron supplementation for 12 weeks has no adverse effect on plasma vitamin C.

Methylcobalamin and Vitamin Capsules

Methylcobalamin and vitamin capsules are characterized by symptoms including seizures, problems with muscular growth and control, feeding difficulties, and psychomotor delays.

When to Take Capsules of Carbonyl Iron with Zinc and Folic Acid

CARBONYL IRON+CYANOCOBALAMIN+FOLIC ACID+ZINC SULFATE may be used to treat iron deficiency anemia, iron deficiency due to low intake of iron, or iron/nutritional deficiency that occurs during pregnancy and lactation.

Dosages of Carbonyl Iron

How much carbonyl iron should I take for anemia?

Usual Adult Dose for Iron Deficiency Anemia: 50 mg orally three times a day.
